Old Historic Harriman Hospital
Tucked away in the small town of Harriman, TN., you’ll find a beautiful mountain view, friendly people, and a lot of charm. On November 18th, 2023, the Tuscaloosa Paranormal Research Group conducted a paranormal investigation at the Old Historic Harriman Hospital.
History
The hospital opened in 1939. The community quickly outgrew it, and in the 1990s, additions were made to expand. The four-story expansion brought much-needed medical advancements to the town. However, strange occurrences began happening unexpectedly. Even while the hospital was operational, reports of paranormal activity began circulating. It was unclear why a newly constructed building would house such supernatural phenomena. Perhaps there was something in the land that stirred as the structural progression took place. The town of Harriman had its fair share of struggle and tragedy prior to the hospital being built.
In 2013, the hospital closed its doors and sat vacant for many years. It was later purchased in 2022 by a group of people with a heart for preserving this historical town fixture. Preservation efforts began, saving the building from decay and demolition. Despite this, the paranormal activity persisted, suggesting that entities beyond the living community were attached to this place.
Spirits of Harriman
There are several paranormal hotspots located within the hospital. Every floor and hallway seems to be active with spirit activity. However, there are a few areas that guests and volunteers deem to be the most haunted. A3, once serving as the ICU and cardiac care unit, is said to be haunted by a relentless spirit named Joanna. Joanna was a nurse stationed on A3. Joanna loved being a nurse and caring for her patients. The hospital was like a second home to her. She tragically succumbed to a fatal heart attack at the hospital during one of her shifts. Even after her life ended, she remains at the place she so dearly loved.
EVIDENCE Captured by TPRG
Below you will find several EVP’s, electronic voice phenomenon, that were captured on our audio recording devices at Harriman. Our investigation was also filmed and featured on Crash Media Paranormal on Youtube. You can watch the full episode by clicking on the button below.
To the right, you will see a video clip from the surgical room. This was an unattended session. Meaning, no one was in or near the area. We left a camera and audio recorder rolling for the duration of 45 minutes. During that time, several sounds of movement took place, as well as the residual sound of an elevator ding. Keep in mind, there are no working elevators in the hospital. This area does not even have electricity. None of these sounds took place while investigators were in the room. The noises began when the room was empty. Check out the full video segment on the Youtube episode.
