History

Carthage, TN, was founded in 1804. The town has a rich history, including its role in the Civil War and its deep connections to Native American culture. The Smith County Heritage Museum houses artifacts from across the county, with featured exhibits on the Civil War, Native American history, local schools, the first African American church, and even minerals from the region.

Spirits of the museum

Most of the spirits at the museum remain unidentified, as the vast collection of artifacts holds countless histories. You never know what—or who—might be attached to these items. After conducting our investigation, we believe we can safely suggest that the spirit of a Civil War soldier still resides here.

EVIDENCE Captured by TPRG

We received several responses on our trip wire, a device that detects electromagnetic fluctuations. Additionally, we experienced activity with our cat balls, which require physical contact to activate.

One of our most compelling pieces of visual evidence was captured during this investigation. We frequently use a device called the Full Spectrum Camera, which captures infrared, ultraviolet, electromagnetic spectrum, and visible light—allowing it to detect visual anomalies that the human eye cannot see.

During the investigation, our investigator, Ashley Kirkland, took a series of images throughout the museum while Jonathan Kirkland followed behind her, documenting the event with a night vision camera. In one of the snapshots, the image of an apparition appeared.
